The Leadership Signal  /  Edition 1

Start Here: The Long Game of Executive Presence

Edition 1  |  3 March 2026  |  3 min read

Welcome to the first edition of The Leadership Signal.

This newsletter is for professionals who are already competent, reliable, and respected for execution, but want to be seen as leadership-ready.

Not louder. Not more polished. Not more “confident” on camera.

More clear. More decisive. More credible when it counts.

What this newsletter is (and is not)

This is: a biweekly deep dive into the behaviors that signal leadership in real rooms: meetings, reviews, escalations, cross-functional calls, and stakeholder updates.

This is not: quick hacks, performative confidence tips, or generic “be a better leader” advice.

Executive presence is the long game of influence. We will treat it that way.

The core idea

Leadership readiness is rarely about intelligence. It is about signal.

Your signal is what people infer from how you:

Strong performers often send an accidental signal: “I will support.” “I will execute.” “I will wait.”

Leaders send a different signal: “I will frame the decision.” “I will manage the trade-off.” “I will close the loop.”

This newsletter is about shifting that signal, consistently.

What you can expect (every two weeks)

Each issue will be one of the following:

  1. A leadership behavior that changes how you are perceived

  2. A practical framework you can use in meetings and updates

  3. A real scenario (pushback, escalations, stakeholder conflict) with lines you can adapt

  4. A small practice drill to build calm authority without overthinking

You will leave with something you can use the same week.

Who this is for

You might be:

Different roles. Same requirement: leadership signal.

How to use this newsletter (simple and effective)

You do not need dramatic reinvention. You need repeatable behaviors.

Start with one shift today

The fastest credibility upgrade is this: Stop giving analysis without a recommendation.

If you are used to saying: “Here’s what the data shows…”

Shift to: “I recommend X. The upside is A. The trade-off is B. The decision we need is C.”

When you take a position, you stop sounding like a contributor and start sounding like an owner.

What I would love from you

If you subscribe, do one thing that makes this newsletter useful for you:

Reply in the comments with your role and the room you struggle with most. Examples: “project reviews”, “client calls”, “skip-level meetings”, “escalations”, “stakeholder updates”.

I will use that to shape upcoming issues.
